How well do you think you know New York City? Even if you live here, there are many people who still have no idea what happens down each alley, around each corner, and inside each building. I have been living here my own life, and I like to say that I have seen a lot of what this city has to offer, and yet, I still find myself amazed by some of the things I manage to discover in this City. This is part of the reason why I decided to get into this blog idea, to bring some of that information to those who only know the city through television shows, or movies, or books and otherwise. For those who live within the city but still have yet to really explore it.
For a little backstory on me, I am a mid twenties writer professionally by day, and writer for fun, like this blog, by night. I spend a lot of time hanging out with local poets and writers, going to functions, and plays, and other venues all around the city. There is a collective group that you see at most of these events, and I guess you could say that I’m part of that scene. Another in the crowd of people who loves to indulge in all the artistic splendour that NYC offers. I have taken part in a few of these shows, making my way through my poetry and short form writing. I have painted, but nothing overly successful, or even relatively successful, and am mostly known as that journalist who likes to hang out with the starving artists.
I write for a local culture magazine, and therefore can say that I have a pretty good finger on the pulse of the underground of this city. Though I couldn’t tell you what the inside of a Wall Street building looks like if I made an educated guess. I am someone who loves the heart beat of the city. To walk down the main congested streets and to see the myriad of different people walking by. The upper crust, the lower class, immigrants and bohemians, musicians and street vendors. These are the people that make this city one of the most diverse and magical on the planet, at least in my humble opinion.
I suppose the purpose of this blog is to share the viewpoint of one of the citizens of this fine city, to bring you some of the information about what goes on here, and the people who are involved in all of these stories. I want to share with you my experiences, and to allow you to look through my eyes, even if for a few minutes at a time, and to see the city as I do. A magical gathering of the most different and unique people in the world, coalescing into one living, breathing art scene, that is ever changing, and always keeping you guessing as to what it’s going to turn into next.
